Free Search Engine Optimization Tips That Work

These free search engine optimization tips can help you gain good rankings in search engines. Once again, these are directly from my "black checklist" of things to do when a new website is launched, so you can be sure that these free search engine optimization tips work!

If you are new to search engine optimization, think of it like this.
* People are using search engines to find things they want. They will use the search engine which provides them what they are looking for.
* Search engine companies understand that their search engine will only be used if they provide quality content, and their softwares, known as search engine bots, are always in search for quality content to present before their audience.
* You have quality content, and now you just need to tell this "software" that you have what they are looking for! It's just marketing, but to a software...

These free search engine optimization tips below will help you do all the right things you need to do to market your website to a software.

1. Do some keyword research. Keywords are terms you think people will search for when they can come across your website. Although we all have an idea of a few keywords, but still you cannot completely guess what a searcher would type in the box to come across your website. This is why some research is needed. Use the free keyword discovery tool at www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

That will give you 100 search terms related to yours in the free area, and if you are a paid user, you can really get some crazy ideas. They do mention that you can target spelling errors, but if you have noticed search results of 2012, you'd see that search engines like google now show results for "corrected" spelling instead of the typo searched term. Read Free Tips To Optimize For New Google 2012.
So if you searched for "freeee search engin tiupa", which is full of typos, you'd still see results for "free search engine tips" instead of the typo.

You might still buy a subscription at keyword discovery, but make sure that targetting typos is not the reason for doing so. It can be used to get a huge list of keywords though.

2. Make sure that you target at least 4-10 keywords, and have a separate page for every 2-3 keywords. I don't mean just replacing your primary keyword with another keyword on your primary page and making duplicate pages, but instead having a quality, informative webpage for that search term. Duplicate pages must be avoided because it's official that this hurts your google rankings. Check out Free Tips To Optimize For New Google 2012.

3. The keyphrase should be the first thing in your title tag. Try to keep the total numbers of characters to less than 75, and avoid using 2 different keyphrases in the title.

4. Add the keywords in the meta description tag of your webpage. If you don't know what meta tags are, then here's a meta tag tutorial , and a free meta tag generator .

5. Make sure the keywords are present in the meta keywords tag.
Although it's an argument that search engines are blind to these meta tags, but it doesn't hurt, and it takes just another minute while developing the webpage, so why not? Just in case the people arguing are wrong...

6. In your body tag, make sure you have a level one heading tag, H1, and it's just before your actual page content starts. You can simply copy the contents of your title tag here.

7. The first paragraph of your content after the heading tag should have your target keyphrases in it, and is better if within the first 10 words.

8. Write the content of your webpage for a real human, and not for a software. The software is trying real hard to turn itself into a human, and is getting better day by day. Search engine companies are working to make their search engine bots smarter, and the sooner you understand this, the better.
Answer this: When was the last time you searched, and came across a webpage that was just a bunch of keywords repeated?

9. Some other things you can take care of are having a related image on your webpage, and having an ALT attribute for the image tag. The content of this attribute can be your keyphrase, and the actual description of the image. It is better to use a image related to your actual webpage content. This way, your keyphrase and the image description are normally related, so you need not fake anything.

10. See if you can link to another webpage, on your own website, or to an external page using the keyphrase that you are targetting. This way you tell a search engine that more information about this topic is also available on the following webpage.

11. Once you are done with the on-page search engine optimization of the webpage, use this free search engine analysis tool to check if the page is well optimized. It won't hurt to get a preview of what a software would see, would it?

12. Once you are done with the webpages, it's time to get some links pointing to your website, or a webpage. The best, easiest, free way is to make a post on your blog which links to your new website, and ping this post. If you don't have a blog, get one, and read these Free Blogging Tips That Work. Other ways of link building, not limited to, are linkbating, directory submission, RSS & it's marketing, article submission, buying links, reciprocal linking, and spying for links.

Finally, after you are done marketing to softwares, here are Free Marketing Tips That Work for real human visitors, and Free Tips For LinkBating That Work, to build back links.
